Keenan Anderson died of cardiac arrest due to being tased by the police six times on January 3rd, 2023. Police were responding to a traffic collision that afternoon, which Keenan was reported as “attempting to run away from”. The edited body cam footage released by the police show Keenan talking to the officer before jogging away and being chased into a busy intersection. Keenan was commanded to lie on his stomach on the street, and after not immediately complying, was forced down by two other officers. Keenan was repeatedly tased while screaming “Help, they’re trying to kill me” and “Please, don’t do this.” Keenan was unarmed. He was later brought to the hospital to receive medical treatment, but died of cardiac arrest. Keenan Anderson was an English teacher at Digital Pioneers Academy in Washington, DC, as well as a cousin of Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors. He was killed because of the excessive force used by the LAPD, because no person, particularly someone who is complying, should be tased that many times.
